I have worked with animals since I was fifteen years old, beginning my animal training career with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and African black-footed penguins. After moving to Nanaimo in 2005, I expanded into the dog training world and studied all levels of obedience, dog care, behaviour problems, dog aggression, protection training, police K9 and search and rescue. I achieved my certification as a Master Dog Trainer, graduated from the Animal Care Aide program at Vancouver Island University, and am a Certified Instructor for DOGSAFE Canine First Aid.
I began my training career with my miniature Schnauzer Rudy, a very wise soul. He guided me to be calm, patient and to listen to what he wanted to teach me. Together, we wanted to share this connection with other dogs and their humans, and Best Paw Forward was created in 2006. Rudy left this dimension at age 13 in 2015, but his presence as the original demo dog for Best Paw Forward can still be felt. My current demo dog is Ty, a Border Collie cross. Together we lead classes, off leash hikes, and, of course, the DOGSAFE Canine First Aid course.
At Best Paw Forward, we believe in the core values of Connection, Clear Communication, Confidence, Understanding, Joy, Unconditional Love. Our trainers are passionate about teaching the human-canine language and creating a harmonious life for our clients and their dogs.
